013: BONITA KYE
lives in one-piece swimsuits, denim shorts, and the world's greatest short crew socks.
Welcome to summer. For me, it never really feels like summer until July. This is partially due to how crazy my job gets during June (a quirk of the industry) and also because June weather is still indecisive. But now, as I write this on a humid 80 degree evening, I can confidently say we’ve made it. Thank God!
Summer is the superior season. I will not back up this statement because this newsletter is not about stating the obvious, but I will say I love getting dressed for summer weather, and I’ll tell you why - summer is about simplicity. When it's stifling and we want to wear as little as possible, the name of the game is getting down to the bare essentials. And if you’ve been following this newsletter, you know this is my favorite challenge.
Bonita Kye seemed like the best person to ring in July with. The born and bred Californian, and consummate summer girl, is the founder of Kye Intimates - a minimalist-meets-feminine collection of intimates, swim, and loungewear. Predictably, she has her summer uniform down. I asked Bonita about the pieces she’s living in right now.
Lately, I rotate between a combination of trousers or relaxed denim shorts, a vintage men’s shirt layered with a tank or tee, a pair of sneakers or loafers, and (the world's greatest) short crew socks. A bit boyish and understated but absolutely freeing. A classic black belt is a staple for me and I almost always have a one-piece swimsuit in my car or luggage. A chance to be in water should never be missed!
BONITA’S MOST WORN:
Trousers or relaxed denim shorts.
Vintage men’s button down shirt.
Tanks and tees.
A classic black belt. I wear one with almost everything.
Loafers or sneakers. These sneakers are my go-to.
A one-piece swimsuit. For swimming of course, but it also makes for an easy, breathable layer for warmer days.
Short crew socks. The world’s greatest.
Thanks for reading this week! Next week I might tell you a little bit about what I’ve been living in. Yikes! As always, please share this with a friend if you enjoyed it.
