According to my sources (my group text), the weather in New York today is akin to “living on the surface of the f*cking sun”. According to the corporate holiday schedule, our proximity to the sun is of little importance - we have now entered fall. Summer Fridays have crept off the calendar, so instead of fantasizing about your next long weekend, I invite you to fantasize about the fall wardrobe that you can’t quite wear yet. It’s been working for me so far.
To get in the mood this week, I spoke to Anina Heé, founder of the sleek, chic minimalist brand, Refine. Anina grew up in a family of luxury textile merchants and worked in editorial fashion for a decade - so she has both a keen, curating eye and an awareness of what truly high-end fabric should look like, feel like, and cost. Refine is the result of that background. It’s a brand that aims to make truly timeless clothing via classic design and quality material. Anina’s uniform, unsurprisingly, is a well-edited assortment of super stylish classics. I asked her to tell me all about it.
My wardrobe has to be functional. I am always on the go - either walking to a meeting, or visiting suppliers via train or plane. After work I am spending time with my daughter, often taking her for a stroll. What I wear needs to bridge the gap between the many hats I wear throughout the day. I can’t be bothered to change, so I have developed a capsule wardrobe that works for numerous occasions. It consists of high waisted denim (my favorite cut is the Daria from Khaite), alternating Refine’s Clothilde turtleneck in ivory and black which is 100% wool and therefore perfect for this transitional weather in Europe right now, New Balance sneakers and a vintage blazer or trench coat. For a dinner date I swap the blazer for a vintage leather jacket, and the sneakers for a ballerina pump or kitten heel in summer, or a heeled knee boot when it’s colder. For my daytime look I switch out the jeans regularly for Refine’s Jenny pants - a tailored jersey pant. They’re so comfortable but really elevated at the same time.
ANINA’S MOST WORN:
High waisted jeans. I alternate between different washes of the Daria and Danielle styles from Khaite. I also like my namesake Annina jeans (note the spelling is different than my name, Anina) from Citizen of Humanity - it’s almost as if they were made for me!
Skintight turtlenecks are all I’ll be wearing through the fall. They are so versatile and the perfect base.
My favorite and most comfortable (!!!!) sneakers.
Refine Jenny Pants. I call them the 24/7 pants because you can wear them for any occasion.
Vintage blazers and leather jackets. Mine are from the wardrobe of my grandmother.
Dinner date shoes.
Keeping it simple and chic this week. Thank you for reading! xxx
