For this week’s letter, I spoke with my friend Jenna Saraco. I’ve lived in New York long enough that I can now say I’ve “known someone for years” just from seeing them around, and that’s the case with Jenna. Lately, we mostly bumped into each other at Marlow & Sons (RIP!!!). Now that it’s closed we have nowhere to drink coffee, which honestly feels like a minor crisis.
Jenna is a photographer and art director. I really love her work. For me, her perspective epitomizes the female gaze: soft, strong, intimate, intuitive. Last year, she published a really gorgeous book called Altars. I’d bet it’s already living on more than a few moodboards
I’ve always loved Jenna’s style. She has an effortless, low-key cool that feels “off-duty” but still looks intentional. Since I spend a lot of my time working from home and wandering the neighborhood, I’m always drawn to that kind of look. I asked Jenna to tell me what she’s been living in lately.
Describe your personal style. What are you living in right now and why?
I tend to gravitate toward comfortable things for my everyday life, whether I'm at home, on a shoot or going out. I love everything oversized, and usually put on a pair of loose fitting jeans, an oversized sweater or sweatshirt, and then a ballet flat to bring back a bit of femininity while still keeping it comfortable. I pretty much wear my Martinianos year round, and own 3 colors. They are the most comfortable shoes to me.
Always on rotation are either my Calvin Klein loose fit jeans, vintage Carhartts, or vintage Levi’s my friend Emily loaned to me during my pregnancy when nothing else fit anymore.
JENNA’S MOST WORN

Right now, I'm two months postpartum and so my clothes/outfits are especially limited, but still hold true to my personality. I’m a creature of comfort, and currently living in cashmere sweatpants and sweaters or my favorite Skim’s sweatpants and zip up hoodie.
I'm really looking forward to spring weather and the months ahead so I can fit into more of my favorite pieces.

How often do you shop?
I shop pretty infrequently. When I do it’s either very pragmatic to replace my basics, like a fresh white t-shirt (my favorites are Gil Rodriquez and Flore Flore) and the Uniqlo U Lemaire collections, they make great staple pieces. Or I’m impulse buying something vintage and super special to me, like when I ran into you this past weekend! I had just purchased a really special jacket at the store Ven Space. You know when you just put something on and it makes you feel good, this jacket did that for me after months of being pregnant and not feeling myself in my clothes.

Where do you shop the most?
I would say 90% of my shopping happens online nowadays. I know what I like and I wear the same things over and over again, so I can just reorder my favorites if anything needs replacing. For vintage pieces, I have a few favorite shops I purchase from online, or do a deep dive on The RealReal or Etsy. My friend Shayna just told me about Tome NYC which I still need to check out.
