For this week’s letter, I caught up with Krissy Jones—founder of Sky Ting, arguably the coolest yoga studio in New York. A dancer and yogi herself, Krissy moves through the world with a kind of ease and presence that can’t be taught. I grew up dancing, and while it’s been years since I’ve set foot in a studio, I’m still drawn to the instinctive style it encourages. Dancers and movers tend to carry themselves with an innate elegance and physical awareness that often reveals itself in how they get dressed.
Krissy’s style is confident, feminine, free-flowing, and joyful, with a palette as colorful as her energy. She feels like the perfect muse as we head into the warmer months. I asked her what she’s been living in lately.
Describe your personal style. What are you living in right now and why?
My style is classic, sporty, American, clean, mermaid, feminine, playful, and easy—and unique—I never want to look like everyone else. I gravitate toward pieces that are well made and have a story, which is why I love vintage. I collect rare finds—especially from the '90s—and mix them with basics in a way that feels relaxed and intentional. I love a sporty shape softened with jewelry, a unique bag, or something flirty or sparkly. Anything with a shell or a fish.
My everyday uniform is simple: a great pant and a loafer, with either a vintage Eres Aquarelle one-piece worn as a bodysuit or a good sweater, depending on the weather. I have a great collection of vintage T-shirts—some perfectly worn-in, others graphic and weird in the best way. I love a hair accessory—a huge scrunchie or a thin headband from Zitomer. I’m drawn to beaded and knit pieces—anything with texture or craftsmanship. I also borrow from my boyfriend’s closet—he has the best sweaters and button-downs, and I love stealing them. When I dance, you'll find me with a button-down tied around my waist.
In the summer, color enters the picture in a big way and I turn up the Euro—vintage Versace, Pucci, or Prada. I live in Manolo Blahnik flat sandals. In the New York winter, my style shifts toward Jil Sander: clean lines, refined structure, a quiet palette. I do most of my shopping when I travel—I find the best pieces that way. I love wearing clothes that remind me of the places I found them or an inspiring vacation. It adds a kind of magic. My friends also find pieces for me because I have a defined style—my besties send me links to special treasures on the internet and say, “you.”

How often do you shop?
I shop when I’m inspired—not habitually. I have eBay alerts running constantly and scroll The RealReal on the train. I can go months without buying anything and then suddenly find five pieces I can’t live without. The best things always seem to appear when I’m not forcing it. I also love editing my closet and giving things away. I hate how wasteful the fashion industry is, which is why 90% of my closet is vintage.
Where do you shop the most?
eBay is my go-to—I have very specific alerts for vintage Prada, Versace, Céline, Galliano, and Manolo Blahnik. I also shop quite a bit on The RealReal. For basics, it's J.Crew or Uniqlo. Desert Vintage is my favorite store—my friend Roberto curates the most minimal, poetic pieces, and I like collecting from him and making them my own. My style is a little more colorful and playful, so I love contrasting those clean pieces with something fun. And I always shop when I travel—vintage stores in Italy, Japan, or Paris are where I find the things that stay with me forever.
Baggy District Vision pants (for yoga and dance)

1920s Chinese fish enamel earrings that I had made in Milan

Belgian loafers

Vintage T-shirts I’ve collected over the years and great sweaters and polos—cotton, cashmere, or strange knits, many from Schostal in Rome
Best buy of the last year?
A few come to mind! A rare gold Prada trench coat from the ’90s—it makes anything I wear feel instantly unique. I recently discovered my favorite sneaker brand—La Sportiva. I haven’t taken them off since I got them in Cortina on a ski trip this year. They're colorful, sporty, and perfect for NYC life. Lastly, a navy robe with a chalk pinstripe and pink piping from Milan—a new entrant into my daily routine

What are you currently searching for?
The perfect anklet—my favorite one from Greece broke, and I haven’t found a worthy replacement yet. I’m always on the hunt for beaded or hand-knit pieces that feel special but easy. I’m also completely inspired by the wardrobe in Sorrentino’s Parthenope—especially the idea of Yves Saint Laurent’s 1966 Le Smoking tuxedo jacket. That whole era, that silhouette…
And I’ll forever be influenced by Gwyneth in Great Expectations. Her Donna Karan looks in that film—minimal, sensual, romantic in a restrained way—are everything. I’m always looking for pieces that strike that same balance of simplicity and allure.
What’s your go-to bodega/coffee/grocery-run outfit?
Loose pants, a vintage tee or tank, a men’s shirt or sweater tied around my waist, and sneakers. Hair up, sunglasses, something fun on my wrist.
Mermaid iridescent Chanel bag
SKY TING merch—track pants or lacrosse shorts
Boxer shorts or cotton karate pants when I’m in motion
Vintage Gianfranco Ferré sunglasses (a gift from my friend Emily)

Does your style change when you go to work?
It actually gets a little looser. I’ll wear a comfortable cotton or silk pant or a soft knit—something I can move in. I want to feel like I can lead, teach, and be fully myself. My clothes need to support what I’m doing without taking up too much space. I’ve also spent so much time in leotards and tight leggings as a dancer and yoga teacher that now I crave freedom and breathable fabrics at work—especially because I lounge a lot while working on my computer and often sit cross-legged.
What’s your go-to for a night out?
Either a silk slip dress, a mini skirt and tank with a loafer or kitten heel, or vintage trousers with an interesting top (I’ve been loving knits and silk tops from Attersee) and a fun piece of jewelry like my fish earrings or this beautiful silver spiral necklace my friend Leandra gave me. I like to feel a little sexy and feminine, especially because I’m in sporty workout clothes most of the day.
What do you always travel with?
A brown Eres swimsuit that I can wear to the beach or at night as a bodysuit and a patterned sarong. Belgian loafers and a men’s button-down shirt always come with me. And in the summer, a pair of Manolo Blahnik sandals. My gemstone rings never leave my side—they’re my medical prescription. I look down at them and feel happy.
These are such fun reads 🙏🏻
