This week’s dispatch comes to you from the glistening beaches of New Jersey, where I’ve spent the past few days sunbathing, eating my parents’ groceries, and generally regressing into a teenage version of myself (don’t we all?). I’ll admit I haven’t exactly been dressing with intention. Most days it’s a bikini and whichever pair of shorts ends up on top of my suitcase. Still, some of my favorite outfits have emerged from this kind of summer-induced autopilot. There’s something about the lazy heat that sharpens my sartorial intuition. Part confidence (a tan always helps), part indifference—I throw this on with that, and somehow, it just works.
I think intuition is underrated when it comes to personal style. In our increasingly formulaic and algorithmic universe, there’s something refreshing—maybe even essential—about just winging it. That’s part of why I enjoyed speaking with Nuria Val this week. A photographer and co-founder of the beauty brand Rowse, Nuria approaches life with curiosity, openness, and a strong sense of intuition. Raised in Barcelona, she began modeling at 17. Her travels soon sparked a passion for photography that evolved into a flourishing creative career. I asked Nuria what she’s been living in lately.
Tell me about your style. What are you living in right now and why?
I’d say my style is intuitive and quite open—it really depends on my mood and where in the world I am. When I’m in Barcelona, the city feels easy and relaxed, so I tend to wear cool, comfortable pieces from a mix of local and international designers that align with my aesthetic. I love outfits that feel effortless but still considered.
How often do you shop?
Roughly once a month. I usually mix it up between vintage finds, timeless furniture, and a few seasonal must-haves.

NURIA’S MOST WORN
Where do you shop the most?
I’m especially drawn to jewelry. I’m a little obsessed with collecting beautiful, lasting pieces—those that feel like modern heirlooms.
Best buy of the last year?
A new Contax medium format camera—it completely shifted the way I see and capture things.

What are you currently searching for?
I’m always on the lookout for vintage treasures, especially something with a story. A beautiful trench or the perfect oversized blazer.

Does your style change when you go to work?
A lot, especially when I’m attending events or hosting something for ROWSE. I love to play with different looks depending on the setting—it’s a way to express another side of myself.
